Pumpkin, now called Ozzy had the remaining part of his partial leg amputated yesterday 14/3/19. It was imperative as when he runs/jumps his stump bumped on the floor making it very painful and potentially dangerous for him. Prior to adoption he was a Live Arico litten looked after by our partners KittyCatz. (www.Kittycatz.net).
Its still not clear how poor Vicki came by her injuries. These photos were taken when she first went to the vets. Since then she has been every day.
As you can see she has had the dead tissue removed to try and help the healing process. Pictured here with our vets whose care and attention is helping to pull her through both physically and mentally from whatever caused these injuries. Hopefully she will have less trips to the vets now, although she doesn’t appear to mind as she is such an amenable and loving dog.
We have not be able to ascertain who owns Vicki or where she came from. Likewise we have no information about how her injuries actually occurred.
She is improving and goes to the vets every day for treatment. Tomorrow she will be sedated and the dead tissue inside her mouth will be removed, giving a clearer view as to whether the wound can be stitched. She can move her jaw better now and hopefully after another operation she will improve even further. She is a lovely dog who actually appears grateful for the help she is receiving. If you have any information about Vicki please contact Arico, help us to help her.
Great fun and a very chilled out fundraiser at the shelter today (24/2/19),…maybe its the presence of the dogs. They were all competing for attention, especially from the children. Some really good entertainment from our Spanish hosts, great food and hospitality. I am especially pleased the volunteers that work in the charity shop and some customers had a chance to visit the dogs and see what their hard work and donations are achieving.
This years goal is to build a water area (swimming pool may be too grand a word) for the dogs as the summer months are soooo hot and hard on the dogs, the ability to splash about would make such a difference to them.
If you would like to help and donate our paypal is [email protected]
Many thanks to all the entertainers, businesses and individuals and Sandra Anne Astley for all your help who offered raffle prizes to help make the fundraiser a success, total raised shall be published shortly.
Please join us this Saturday at our shelter, for an amazing charity party. Amazing shows and surprises.
It is not only dogs that are treated so cruelly by people. This week this tiny new born kitten was found in a box in the basura, cold, hungry and with its umbilical cord attached. We work closely with an organisation called KittyCatz who are now caring for this this little baby. www.kittycatz.net
Do you know who owns this dog? We are looking for her owners as its possible they are unaware she has been injured. We have called her Vikki and she is a German Shepherd cross of approximately 7 years of age. She has unsightly clipped ears. We are unsure how her injuries were sustained but it was a blunt force trauma to the face causing horrific injuries to her teeth and jaw. It’s possible she has been involved in a road traffic accident. She has now had an operation to repair her face and teeth and is now recovering at Live Arico. We do not know the exact area that she was found at the moment we are trying to contact the person who contacted us to find out but in the mean time if you know who owns her please send us a private message.
We, at Live Arico PAWS can’t thank Leslie Elvis Moore enough, he arrived at the charity shop In San Eugenio with another large donation that he has been working so hard to raise, he has, to date raised an amazing 3057.43€ for the abandoned animals.
As you can imagine, cash is always short, as vet and feed bills are usually very high. Because of Les’s help, we can for the first time plan ahead and work to improve and enhance the environment for the dogs, many of whom have and will be with us for some time, (mainly due to age and large size).
A play area with things of interest to the dogs is being planned and some kind of water area, as the summer months can be hard on the dogs, they would love to be able to have a splash about.
We have already spent some of the money helping a smaller shelter secure their fencing, as sadly some hunters dogs broke in and killed and injured some animals.
Thank you all so much for continuing to be supportive to Les and Live Arico PAWS, your help will make such a positive difference to so many animals lives
Tina needs a foster home can you help her?? She is a young Podenco cross who was found after the hunting season. She originally came to Arico very anxious and scared. She is slowly improving and learning to trust. She needs a foster home where she would be out of a kennel environment to be able to settle into a normal home situation. She will take time and patience but the rewards will be amazing. Live Arico will of course offer full support if you are able to help this lovely dog who just needs a chance of normality.
Alice has sadly lost her battle with cancer. Her final weeks were spent in the home of one of our carers where she received the extra love and care she truly deserved. Alice will be missed by all, rest in peace our little ray of sunshine.
